News-Times staff brings home awards
The El Dorado News-Times won a total of 13 awards at the Arkansas Press Association’s 2014 Super Convention held Wednesday through Saturday at the Embassy Suites in Hot Springs.
Winners included Michael Orrell, first place in the Feature Photo category, for “Veterans’ Day ceremony;” Tony Burns, first place in the Sports Feature Story category, for “Norphlet’s time to shine;” Jim Patterson, first place in the News/Political Column category, for “No more hurting people;” Michael Orrell, second place in the Single Sports Action Photo category, for “High hurdled;” Allison Gatlin, second place in the General Interest Column category, for “My wonderful, life-changing ‘yes’;” Chris Qualls, third place in the Editorial category, for “The nature of the political beast;” Michael Orrell, third place in the Single News Photo category, for “Apprehended;” Michael Orrell, third place in the Single Sports Action Photo category, for “He’s waiting;” Jim Patterson and Chris Qualls, third place in the Best Front Page category; Tia Lyons and David Showers, honorable mention in the News Story category for “Cops crack steroid ring;” Joan Hershberger, honorable mention in the Feature Story category, for “The sole of a cobbler;” Chris Qualls, honorable mention in the Editorial category, for “It’s time to stop throwing stones;” and Jim Patterson, honorable mention in the Headline Writing category, for “Authorities muscle in on $500,000 operation.”
The APA contest was judged by the Tennessee Press Association, and winners were selected from a field of 1,865 total entries.
