Smackover's Clark claims Meet of Champs crown

May 24, 1992 PEARCY - All three athletes who competed in the 35th annual Meet of Champions came home happy Saturday.

But, none were happier than Smackover’s Chris Clark, who raced to the Meet of Champs victory in the 200-meter dash.

Huttig’s Kristine Floerke finished second in the high jump and El Dorado’s Dana McDaniel took third in the girls 200-meter dash.

Clark, who also took third in the 100 and fourth in the 110 hurdles, put the finishing touches on his high school career with a personal best time of 21.5 in the 200 meters.

“This is a great thrill,” said Clark. “It ranks up there at the top. I never thought I could do something like that.”

Clark avenged his only loss of the season as he held off Monticello’s Tracy Welch at the tape.

The win provided some solace for the senior Buckaroo as his baseball season came to an early end in the first round of the Class A State Tournament Monday.

“That made me sick,” said Clark, “but this made up for it.”
