For the weekend
An old-school concert featuring legendary funk/R&B group Zapp is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday in the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium, 100 W. Eighth. Hosted by Southern soul artist Omar Cunningham, the event will also serve as the roll-out of a new nonprofit organization Brothers Making Changes. A mini-play telling the story about the inspiration behind the organization will be performed, and El Dorado Police Department Detective Angela Means and Perry Franklin, who lost an adult daughter to violence in 2014, will be guest speakers. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Tickets may be purchased at Mr. Mike’s Music and Artwork in El Dorado, Magnolia Customs in Magnolia, Special Touch in Camden, JB’s in Crossett and in Louisiana at Dez’s Barbershop (Bernice), LBK’s (Farmerville), and Martha’s Boutique (Ruston). For more information, call Michael Jackson at 870-8667441.
Area girls and young women ages 10 to 20 are invited to Tea Time, which will be held from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at 2710 N. West Ave. (behind Taco Bell).
The event is being presented by the Shaping Hardworking Individuals for the Future (S.H.I.F.T) Program.
The theme is “Girls Talk But Real Talk.” Discussion topics will include Peer Pressure, Dealing with Criticism, Whatever Happened to Good Manners, and Sexting Kills.
Those who are planning to attend Tea Time are asked to wear their “prettiest party dress and hat.” The event is free. For more information, call Janice Zarebski at 870-8141349.
