Dixon suffers injury on first day of camp

According to baltimorer­avens.com, former Strong standout Kenneth Dixon suffered a knee injury during the Ravens' first practice of training camp on Thursday.

Dixon, who starred at Louisiana Tech, was selected by the Ravens in the fourth round of the NFL draft this spring.

The injury isn't considered serious, and Dixon could return to practice as early as today.

County Hall of Fame banquet set for July 30

The sixth annual Union County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held July 30 at the El Dorado Conference Center.

Meet the inductees at 5 p.m. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. This year's inductees are Union High's Rose Avery, Smackover High's Joe Black, Strong High's Sam Coleman, Junction City High's Vince Holyfield and Meritoriou­s is El Dorado High's Tommy May. Tickets are not sold at the door but can be purchased at any Smackover State Bank location or at United Insurance Agency.

Tickets are $25.

Pine Hills to host ‘Gusher’ Golf tourney

The Pine Hills “Gusher” Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 6-7 at the Pine Hills Country Club in Smackover.

Entry fee is $260 per team and there will be a free practice round on Friday.

There will also be a shootout on Friday ($20 per team) and a meal on Friday and Saturday nights.

A Calcutta will be held Saturday night immediatel­y following the meal, and there will be live music after the Calcutta.

The tournament is limited to 66 teams.
