Barton seventh-grade tops Strong 28-6
STRONG - Sharmon Rester threw for 145 yards and three touchdowns, as Barton's seventh-grade football team remained undefeated with a 28-6 win over Strong on Tuesday night. The Wildkittens (6-0-1) also got a terrific performance from Jackie Washington, who had 125 yards receiving and caught all three of Rester's touchdown passes.
Washington also ran for a touchdown and finished with 60 yards rushing.
Defensively, Lance Yarbrough and Kamron Bibby had one interception apiece, while Jace Hudson added eight tackles for Barton.
Smackover softballers to host fundraiser
The Smackover softball team will be hosting a car wash to help raise funds for their spring trip this weekend.
It will take place at Advance Auto Parts on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Texas-Arlington picked to win Sun Belt
LITTLE ROCK (AP) — The University of TexasArlington is the pick to win the Sun Belt Conference basketball title in a poll of conference head coaches.
Defending champion Arkansas-Little Rock is picked to finish second in the poll released Wednesday.
Georgia State is picked third, followed by Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, LouisianaLafayette, LouisianaMonroe, Troy, Arkansas State at 10th, Appalachian State and Texas State.
UTA's Kevin Hervey is the preseason choice as Player of the Year.
