Union County schools win at Lady Cat Classic

EL DORADO - A day after Grace Hargett turned in s sterling performanc­e in the circle, Larran Simmons followed suit.

A sophomore, Simmons scattered six hits and two runs over four innings of work, as the Lady Wildcats held off Junction City 4-2 to advance at the Lady Cat Classic on Friday.

Simmons walked one and struck out two before giving way to Hargett, who struck out four over two hitless innings to pick up the save. Tristen Lewis drove in runs with a single and a groundout for the Lady Wildcats (2-0).

Marissa Rice and Allyson Silmon were each 2-for-3, while Kelsey Howard was 1-for-1 with two walks and four stolen bases.

Payton Scarlett was 1-for-2 for EHS.

Laura Hogue was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Junction City.

Addyson Yeager and Julia Rogers were each 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Charly Temple and Memorie Hall were 1-for-3.

Temple went the distance for the Dragons, finishing with an eight-hitter. She walked three and

struck out two.

Parkers Chapel 7, Hermitage 6

In their second game of the day, the Lady Trojans scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to cap their comeback from a 6-0 deficit.

Savannah Slaughter delivered the game-winning hit, a three-run triple to keep the Lady Trojans unbeaten in the tournament.

Savannah Jones, who was 2-for-3, started the rally with a double.

After a walk to Kenlee McAuliffe, Kylie Jones laced an RBI single to make it 6-3.

A walk to Kaylin Waller loaded the bases, setting the stage for Slaughter's game-winning hit.

Allison Rogers had a perfect evening at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two doubles.

Waller added a single and an RBI, while Courtney Phelps had a double and Jaycie Burns went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Phelps struck out eight, allowed four hits and walked two. She allowed just two earned runs.

Hermitage scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

However, the Lady Trojans began to chip away at Hermitage's lead.

The Lady Trojans scored a run in the third before adding two more runs in the fourth to close within 6-3 to set up their dramatic comeback in the fifth.

The Lady Trojans resume play today in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m.

Parkers Chapel 6, Hamburg 0

Earlier in the day, the Lady Trojans won their opener at the Lady Cat Classic thanks to offensive balance and dominant pitching by Phelps.

Rogers and Waller were each 2-for-3 in the win for Parkers Chapel.

Rogers had two RBIs, while Waller had two stolen bases.

Phelps, Jones, McAuliffe and Bailey Norwood each had one hit for the Lady Trojans with McAuliffe adding an RBI in the win.

In the circle, Phelps tossed a three-hit shutout, walked one and struck out eight.

Smackover 8, Hampton 0

The Lady Bucks (2-1) advanced at the Lady Cat Classic behind a stellar pitching performanc­e by Ashley Haynes, who fired a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Lydia Pullin belted a tworun homer for Smackover, who will face Taylor at 10:30 a.m. today.

Karli Goocher had a double and two RBIs, while Alexis Cook and Lexi Gilbert each had a double and an RBI in the win.

Heather Haltom was 1-for-2 for Smackover.
