Dragons upend Billies

MONTICELLO - After a disappoint­ing setback on Friday, Junction City bounced back with one of its biggest wins of the season.

Logan Disotell went the distance with a seven-hitter and Jack Smith came up with yet another huge hit, as the Dragons handed Monticello its first loss in Class 3A-4A District 12 play with a 2-1 triumph over the Billies on Tuesday.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Dragons scored the go-ahead run in the seventh.

With one out, Bryce Ware struck out, but a wild pitch on the third strike allowed the sophomore to safely reach.

Clay Jolley then bunted for a base hit to put runners at first and second, setting the stage for Smith.

Smith, who belted a three-run double that proved to be the difference in the Dragons’ 3-2 home win over Fordyce last month, delivered an RBI single to right after an 11-pitch at-bat to give Junction City a 2-1 lead.

Disotell, who walked five, hit two batters and struck out three, sealed the win with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. The senior surrendere­d his lone run of the game in the third.

Trailing 1- 0, the Dragons tied the game in the fourth.

Robbie Roberson singled and Joe Lowe followed with a sacrifice bunt.

A walk to Keelan Hodge put runners at first and second, and Disotell reached on an error to load the bases.

Brock McGoogan then tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

In addition to his pitching performanc­e, Disotell added a double at the plate.

Junction City will be back in action today when they play at Hamburg.

Game time is set for 5 p.m.

Hamburg 9, Smackover 2

HAMBURG - Leading 3-1, the Lions used a fiverun fifth to pull away from the Bucks (8-12) in Class 3A-4A District 12 play.

The Bucks scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to account for their scoring.

In the fourth, Beau Burson singled with one out, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Cade Schibler.

In the sixth, Weston

Smith struck out, but the third strike was dropped, and Smith was able to advance to third thanks to a throwing error on the play.

Smith later scored on a passed ball.

Tucker Evans worked five-plus innings to take the loss. He allowed eight runs with only two of those runs being earned runs.

He allowed five hits, walked three, hit two batters and struck out two.

Cody Smith allowed an unearned run in one inning in relief. He allowed one hit, walked one, struck out one.

In addition to Burson’s single, Clay Stringer was 1-for-3 and Baylor Brumley was 1-for-2 to round out Smackover’s attack.

Smackover will play at Woodlawn on Thursday.
