Man accused of striking officer
EL DORADO — An El Dorado man is in jail after he allegedly fought and struck a police officer on Friday, according to police.
Stacey Davis, 41, of El Dorado, was arrested Friday in connection with criminal trespassing and allegedly striking an off-duty El Dorado police officer, rendering the officer semi-conscious, said 35th District Court Judge Jack Barker on Monday.
The altercation occurred near the Medical Center of South Ark-ansas around 2 a.m., Friday, after Davis reportedly refused to leave from the hospital.
After his first court appearance on Monday, Davis is being held
at the Union County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
According to the El Dorado Police Department, between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., Friday, Davis was being treated at the MCSA and became disruptive and started using profane language around other patients and doctors.
Because Davis continued disrupting those around him, doctors released him from the hospital. However, Davis then became upset and refused to leave, said Admin. Capt. Michael Leveritt, El Dorado Police Department.
“We have off-duty officers who help out with security and they began writing him up for criminal trespassing,” Leveritt said.
Davis attempted to flee from the hospital, and security officers followed him outside to try and apprehend him.
Near the hospital, “he started hitting at officers and almost made one of them lose consciousness,” Leveritt said.
After three more officers arrived to assist, Davis was placed into custody, he said.
According to the report, Davis hit the off-duty officer multiple times, sustaining a shoulder injury, redness in the face, and momentary faintness.
“He’s not back to full-duty,” Leveritt said.
In court, State Prosecutor Greg Thomas looked over the evidence and recommended a $100,000 bond, cash or corporate surety.
“He fought law enforcement at the hospital and knocked one of them unconscious,” Thomas said.
“That’s a lie, sir,” Davis said, adding later, “I didn’t touch no one, my right hand to the good Lord.”
In court, Davis pled the court to look at the hospital’s video camera footage.
“I barely made it out,” Davis said.
Davis is being charged with second-degree battery, fleeing, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. Also, he’s in violation of his parole. He is bound to circuit court for further proceedings.
