Enjoying the holiday weekend

Ihope everyone had a nice Memorial Day holiday. We stayed close to home and just enjoyed some time with friends.

Saturday was an all day event starting right after lunch.

We went to our friends’ house and let our boys play all afternoon and late into the night.

From riding their Power Wheels and running through the sprinklers to crashing for much-needed naps and running around in the yard, the boys had a fun day.

As for us adults, we just enjoyed sitting on the porch and catching up. We had a brisket on the smoker and lots of good food to enjoy for supper. We even had a jam session to enjoy some good old rock music and watch our kids make fun of their dads’ air guitar performances.

It was even funnier when the boys were used as guitars.

They laughed so hard at being tickled.

After the big meal, the boys wanted to watch TV while us adults enjoyed a fun game of cards and renewed our spades rivalry.

We made it home pretty late and we all slept well Saturday night.

I am excited and patiently waiting on my Mother’s Day present to arrive. I am so excited to announce that I am getting a new bow.

My Hoyt PowerMax Blackout edition is a wonderful addition to my hunting gear and I can’t wait to see it in my hands. It makes me even more ready for fall. I think Cooper may catch the archery bug.

He had the opportunity to shoot a bow while we were at Slingin’ Arrows and he was pretty excited.

I have a feeling he will be needing a bow once he is ready. Tuesday afternoon was perfect for a last minute getaway to the river. Daddy surprised Cooper with an early pickup from preschool and I met them at home once I got off work.

The boat was ready to go and we headed to Felsenthal.

Cage was going to try the bass and I just wanted to relax in the boat and entertain Cooper.

Cooper and I watched ducks, cormorants, songbirds and turtles.

We also heard the bullfrogs and he wanted to look for snakes.

After a few casts, Cage landed a nice little bass and let Cooper touch it.

Cooper smelled like fish the rest of the day.

We rode around after we saw the fish were not biting much and let Cooper drive the boat slowly through the backwater through some of the duck holes we use in winter.

We showed him the eagle nest and we were lucky enough to see an eagle fly just above the trees. The sun was setting and it was time to head home.

Just enjoying some time on the water is sometimes all the therapy you need.

You can send your kids pictures of their catches this summer. You can also submit those big bass and bullfrogs as well! First fish? Biggest fish? Send them on!
