Hogs' Cornelius, Greenlaw on watch lists

FAYETTEVIL­LE - Arkansas Razorbacks senior receiver/ punt returner Jared Cornelius of Shreveport was among 46 named to Monday’s watch list for the Paul Hornung Award it was announced in Louisville, Ky.

And though he missed half of the 2016 season with a broken foot, Arkansas junior linebacker Dre Greenlaw was named to the Butkus Award watch list Monday in Chicago.

Named for former College Hall of Fame Notre Dame halfback/ quarterbac­k/placekicke­r Paul Hornung earning Pro Football Hall of Fame admittance as a running back/placekicke­r for the Green Bay Packers, the Hornung in December honors college football’s most effectivel­y versatile player.

Arkansas’ leading returning receiver, Cornelius’ versatilit­y credential­s off 2016 include 32 catches for 515 yards, including a career high 146 against SEC champion Alabama, and four touchdowns, 13 carries on reverses for 53 yards and a touchdown and 12 punt returns for 85 yards not including a punt return touchdown voided by a teammate’s penalty.

Named for former University of Illinois College Hall of Fame linebacker and Chicago Bears Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus, the Butkus Award in December honors the nation’s outstandin­g college linebacker.

Greenlaw is among 51 on Monday’s watch list.

In seven games last season, Greenlaw made 42 tackles and intercepte­d a pass.

As a true freshman in 2015, Greenlaw four times made 10 tackles or more including three SEC games and twice was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the SEC Office in Birmingham, Ala.

Greenlaw was held out of spring drills to mend his foot but is cleared full go, Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema said, to practice when the Razorbacks begin preseason drills on July 27.
