Former El Dorado standout looking forward to big season with Razorbacks.
MAGNOLIA – A graduate assistant in the athletic communications office at Southern Arkansas for the last two and a half years, Jacob Pumphrey will remain at SAU as he has been named as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.
“Jacob is an incredible asset to Southern Arkansas athletics,” said Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications Daniel Gallegos. “His work ethic and genuine love and passion for all things Mulerider set him apart from and truly make him invaluable at SAU. The level of visibility and promotion of Mulerider athletics would not be where it is today without Jacob, and I am excited to be able to continue that.”
In his new role, Pumphrey will build upon his experiences as a graduate assistant where he served the primary contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, softball, men’s and women’s track and field and volleyball while serving as the secondary contact for SAU’s remaining athletic programs.
As the primary contact for those sports, Pumphrey was in charge of pre and post-game responsibilities such as game day/final score graphics, game notes, performance lists, game previews and recaps as well as hosting numerous weekly SAU coaches shows.
Additionally, Pumphrey assisted in statistical coverage of all sports and contributed to SAU’s social media channels and live video operation.
Prior to his time as a graduate assistant, Pumphrey was member of the SAU baseball and football teams, playing baseball from 2011-2014 and football from the 2010 season to the 2014 campaign.
In that time, Pumphrey was a part of 177 wins combined among the two programs as well as four Great American Conference championships on the diamond and a bowl game appearance on the gridiron.
A native of Junction City, Pumphrey had a hand in the creation of the Dragon Sports Network, an internet-based broadcast of Junction City High School football and basketball.
Since its inception in 2013, Pumphrey has served in play-by-play and color commentary roles alongside his father, Wayne, for numerous DSN broadcasts.
Academically, Pumphrey was a three-time member of the GAC AllAcademic Team and he graduated from SAU with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mass Communications – Mass Media and History in December 2014.
Most recently, Pumphrey earned his Master’s of Business Administration from SAU in May of 2017.
