Reminder of Services

BILLY D. ARCHER Visitation for Billy Don Archer, 73, will be at 10 a.m. today at Turpin Funeral Home, followed by graveside service at 11 a.m. today at Lone Tree Cemetery Chapel.

WANDA L. JONES Wanda Lynn Washington Jones, 81, of El Dorado, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Young’s.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Norphlet. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

JULIA A. SMITH Visitation for Julia Ann Smith, 60, will be held from 2 until 5:30 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Farmervill­e, Louisiana.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at the St. John Baptist Church in Lillie, Louisiana. Interment will follow at the St. John Church Cemetery.

JOHN C. ABBOTT

SR.

John Clayton Abbott Sr., 77, of El Dorado, died on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017 at Life Touch John R. Williamson Hospice House.

Born on Dec. 12, 1939 in El Dorado, John was the only child of John Benjamin Abbott and Alice Grayson Abbott. John was a member of First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. John was a rancher and tree farmer who instilled in his children and grandchild­ren a love of the land and God’s creatures.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a Master Gardener and active in the Union County Master Gardeners many community projects.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Bardin Abbott; a daughter, Alice Abbott and husband Rudy Buckman; a son John C. Abbott Jr. and wife Katrina, all of El Dorado. He is also survived by grandchild­ren Thomas Buckman, Jonathan Buckman (Rachel) and son Emory, Ben Abbott (Angela) and expected son John William Abbott, Abby Abbott and Zach Abbott.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Directors. Cremation services were entrusted to Young’s Funeral Directors.

JOHNNY D. GATHRIGHT SR. Johnny Doyle Gathright, Sr. Johnny Doyle Gathright,Sr. 91, passed away November 28th at the John Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado, AR after an extended stay at Courtyard Health and Rehab. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from Johns Manville Forrest Products in Huttig, AR where he was a long time resident. He was an avid hunter and he loved spending time in the woods.

He is survived by his three sons, Johnny Gathright and wife Effie of Mountain View, AR, Wayne Gathright and wife Sharon of Magnolia, AR, Paul Gathright and wife Beth of Mound, MN; his daughter, Dorothy Poole and husband Bob of Strong, AR; brother JD Gathright; sisters Floyce Scheet and Reba Manning. Papaw Gathright will surely be missed by his grandkids: Kevin Gathright, Jared Gathright and wife Brittney, Sheri Ware, Brandon Gathright and wife Emily, Brandi Cotterman and husband George, Brianna Belton and husband Johnny Ray, Kim Rieger and husband Kevin, Kelly Hammons and husband Thomas, Justin Poole and fianc Kelsey, Joshua Gathright, Jamie Gathright, and Jesse Gathright; along with great-grand kids, Natalie and Madison Gathright; Emma Ware; Hunter, Rebekah, and Jonathan Gathright; Bentley and Chloe Lynn; Brayden and Gage Cotterman; Huxley Belton; Savannah and Ethan Rieger; Mason and Kate Hammons; and Dawson Poole. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 30, 2017, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, in El Dorado, AR. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Nathan Dupree and Rev. Buddy Lowrey officiatin­g. Interment will be in Harper Springs Cemetery in Huttig, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado, AR. Pallbearer­s will be, Jared Gathright, Justin Poole, Joshua Gathright, Jesse Gathright, Brandon Gathright, Brayden Cotterman, and Hunter Gathright. The family would like to thank Courtyard Health and Rehab for the care given the last few years.

AL VERNON

Al Vernon, 82, of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

Born Oct. 21, 1935 in El Dorado, he was the son of Alfred Brantley Vernon Sr. and Dovie Newsom Vernon, who preceded him in death. He had been employed at Murphy Oil Corp. as an accountant. He was an avid outdoorsma­n who loved to hunt and fish and treasured his time spent with friends and family at Lake Greeson. Al was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and had been the church treasurer for many years. Al also served his country as a member of the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Beverly Cain Vernon of El Dorado; a son, Trey Vernon

(Pam) of El Dorado; daughters, Shayne Rothwell (Shawn) of Camden, Valerie Rogers (Brian) of Little Rock, and Allison Hartley of Shreveport Louisiana. He is also survived by six grandchild­ren, Bella Rothwell, Sam Rothwell, Jackson Hancock, Kate Vernon, Justin Ardwin (Stacy), and Corey Ardwin (Connie); along with three great-grandchild­ren, Vincent Ardwin, Lilith Ardwin, and Katy Ardwin.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 in St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. Bubba Smith and the Rev. John Darnell officiatin­g, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 until 7:00 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Directors.
