Rain brings halt to outdoor activities

With the rain showers last weekend, my plans of going shed hunting were put on the waiting list.

I was hoping to make a round through the deer trails but decided to wait until this weekend.

We now have rain looming in the forecast through the weekend so I guess I will have to wait a little longer.

I was thinking about how much our area would flood after the runoff from the Upper Ouachita made it down here from the Hot Springs area.

Flooded bottoms means you will see more deer and of course more hogs in your area if you live off the beaten path.

There is no better time to help thin the hog population than now.

Taking a sow today can stop her from having ten more in a few weeks if she hasn't already had a litter.

Predator hunting and trapping will be over soon, so help save a few fawns and turkey nests by harvesting a coyote, bobcat and a few raccoons.

The one really good thing about all of the heavy rain is being able to go to my favorite spot to hunt for arrowheads and chips.

I have found a few nice ones over the last few years and I always seem to find one during turkey season.

I guess it is God's way of helping my turkey season not be a total loss.

With warm weather showing up in February, the turkeys will be ready to strut well before the season opens in April.

Another turkey season of spending it with fingers crossed that at least one tom is still looking for a lonely hen after the rest are on the nests.

My last turkey season yielded a tag sandwich, a blister on my left heel and a nice piece of my family history.

It has already been almost a year since I found my great grandmother's butter churn buried halfway in the ground.

Finding it definitely made up for the gobblers being done with chasing hens.

Hopefully, if the rain stops, I can go on a nice walk Sunday afternoon.

I found one shed and I would love to find another, especially if I find the mate to the one I found. I have never found a complete set before.

Of all of the sheds I have found, eight of them are right sides and just two are left side sheds. Keep sending your favorite pictures in to me.

I love to share them. Prime fishing weather is on the horizon and I would love to see those first fish pictures along with those impressive lunker bass trophies!

We will certainly have plenty of water!

If the water keeps rising, you can eventually fish out of the back door or take your pet fish for a walk.
