Lady Bucks take 3rd place over El Dorado in Lady Cat Classic

Smackover scored six runs in the fifth inning and rallied for an 8-5 win over El Dorado in the third place game of the Lady Cat Classic at the Union County Recreation Complex.

Camden Fairview blanked Harmony Grove 1-0 in the championsh­ip game.

The Lady Wildcats were knocked into the consolatio­n bracket by Fairview 6-0 Friday night. El Dorado played the tournament without starting pitcher Grace Hargett, who rested an injury.

"We were definitely shorthande­d pitching-wise," said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. "But, I am proud of the way we regrouped Saturday. They responded to the challenge and played well. I'm proud of them for bouncing back.

"I'm really pleased with the overall tournament itself. Hat's off to Camden Fairview for a great weekend of softball."

Smackover pounded out eight hits in the fifth to rally from a 5-2 deficit in the third place game.

Sabrina Estridge reached on an error before Karli Goocher singled. Reagan Richardson singled in a run and Abbi Crawford doubled home two runs. Lexi Gilbert singled before Lydia Pullin had a two-run single. Makayla Burroughs drove in a run with a suicide squeeze.

The Lady Bucks scored two in the first. Richardson singled in a run. Crawford doubled and scored on Gilbert's sacrifice fly.

El Dorado scored two in the third. Payton Scarlett reached on an error. After a single by Allyson Silmon, Larran Simmons singled in two runs. In the fourth, the Lady Wildcats scored three with Grace Murry hitting a two-run single.

Estridge, Goocher, Richardson, Crawford and Tori Amspaugh had two hits apiece for the Lady Bucks.

Smackover won twice on Friday before losing to the Lady Hornets 6-0 on Saturday. Kacie Reede held the Lady Bucks to just one hit by Richardson.

Crawford took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs while striking out six.

Smackover beat Star City 3-2 behind Karis Robinson, who started in the circle for the first time. Robinson allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

Burroughs doubled and scored on a single by Brooklyn Dees in the second. Richardson and Crawford singled and scored on Gilbert's tworun double in the third.

The Lady Wildcats beat Texarkana 13-5 on Saturday.

Simmons was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Lea Jones was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Taylor Mayo was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ava Dunn was 3-for-3. Silmon had two hits and a RBI. Simmons was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Scarlett had two hits.

El Dorado beat Magnolia 5-2.

Scarlett was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits with two walksand three strikeouts in five innings.

Jones was 2-for-3 with a three-run double. Mayo was 2-for-3 with Murry, Scarlett and Silmon all adding hits.

Smackover opened play Friday with a pair of victories over Hermitage (6-0) and Monticello (4-2).

Crawford went the full five innings against the Lady Hermits, striking out three while allowing four hits.

Richardson launched a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Lady Bucks. Goocher, Crawford and Gilbert all went 2-for-2 at the plate. Pullin had a two-run double in the first.

Goocher doubled and scored on Gilbert’s RBI single in the third.

In the second game, Smackover rallied with two runs in the fourth before Richardson added insurance with a solo blast in the fifth. Estridge walked and scored on Crawford’s sacrifice fly in the first.

The Lady Billies took a 2-1 lead into the fourth. Amspaugh singled and Estridge drove in a run with a single in the inning.

Richardson and Crawford had two hits apiece for Smackover.

Crawford pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

“Monticello is very good,” said Smackover coach Dennis Steele. “Crawford pitched a whale of a game. I was real pleased with our defense and her pitching.”
