About is between Karen Scott and the incumbent, Paula Beard. With Scott and Beard both being part of the Democratic party, the position will be determined during the primary race, which is set for May 22.

Scott, a Parkers Chapel graduate, currently works as a deputy assessor in the Union County Assessor’s office. Scott has worked in the Union County Courthouse for five years. She worked as the chief deputy tax collector under Dorothy Raley and then under Beard when she came into office in 2017. Scott began working in the Assessor’s office last year.

Scott said the tax collector’s job is to collect tax dollars based on assessment valuations from the Assessor’s office.

Some of the important issues to Scott include having the Assessor’s office and tax collector’s office work together and be on the same page for the taxpayers.

“Working in the collector’s office and now the Assessor’s office has allowed me to see how important it is that both offices work together for the taxpayers,” Scott said. “I am running to restore confidence and respect back into the Courthouse.”

Scott enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children. She said they like to go camping, kayaking and just being outdoors.
