Henry's blast lifts Lady Wildcats past Texarkana 1-0

El Dorado's girls soccer team punched its ticket into the 6A state tournament Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Texarkana at the El Dorado Soccer Complex. The Lady Wildcats improved to 14-2 while the Lady Razorbacks slipped to 8-8 on the season.

Sophomore Carson Henry finally solved Texarkana's defense, which was packed in the box in front of the goal, with a blast from about 45 yards out with just 14:33 left to play. The shot, high and majestic, appeared to catch the Texarkana goalkeeper off-guard as it floated into the net.

That would be all the scoring El Dorado needed as the Lady Wildcats went into defensive mode and, fairly easily, chewed up the remaining time off the clock.

Ironically, El Dorado's goal was one of its lowest percentage shot attempts in the game. In the final two minutes of the half, Hannah McAllister had a shot in front of the Lady Razorbacks' goal that was deflected. Two minutes prior to the game-winning goal, Henry blasted a shot with her right foot straight at the goalie, who made a self-defense save from point blank range.

Earlier in the half, Madi Bonsall just missed on a golden opportunity on a centering pass in front of the net.

El Dorado's defense and midfield dominated the action, which was played, almost exclusively, in front of Texarkana's goal. The Lady Razorbacks did not get off a shot on goal in the match.

El Dorado will travel to Siloam Springs on Tuesday.
