Investigations continue in Sunday shooting
El Dorado police are continuing an “intense” investigation into a shooting Sunday that left one man dead and another injured.
Thirty-five-year-old Darris C. Davis, of Little Rock, was found unresponsive when officers arrived in the area of Stuart and Elm at approximately 4:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting.
Davis was later pronounced dead, having sustained a bullet wound to the face.
Dameon S. Westbrook, 29, of El Dorado, was also injured in the shooting. He was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas for a gunshot wound to the thigh.
Police said Westbrook’s injury was not lifethreatening.
The names of the victims were not released Sunday, pending notification of family members, said Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department.
Officers described a chaotic scene following the shooting, noting there was a large crowd gathering in the streets and several people were screaming when officers arrived.
Holt said the sheer size of the crowd has amplified the police probe into the incident.
“There was a large party, a large crowd. There were several cars on the scene, and we’re still interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence,” Holt said. “It’s an intense investigation.”
Though investigators are still piecing together the details and have not yet established a firm motive — rumors that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over
parking have not yet been confirmed by police —, Holt said detectives were working Monday to issue an arrest warrant for a suspect.
“We are going to go from there and as the investigation continues, we’re looking at additional arrests besides the one we’re working on,” Holt said.
Search warrants have been issued for a house in the 200 block of Stuart and for the vehicles that were parked in the area, Holt said.
He said several of the vehicles were grazed by bullets. Several witnesses told officers Sunday that a suspect was inside the house at 212 Stuart — the house for which investigators secured a search warrant.
Davis was lying on the ground in front of the house when officers arrived on the scene.
A search of the house did not turn up any suspects, police said.
Other witnesses told officers that the suspect had left the scene by the time emergency responders arrived.
“We’re still working through all that. Because of the number of people that were actually there, we’re not sure how long it’s going to take, and we don’t want to make mistakes. It’s going to be a long process,” Holt said.
