Several scholarshi­p now opportunit­ies available

Are you a senior? Going to college? Need a bit of financial help? El Dorado High School has informatio­n available for several scholarshi­ps for seniors who are interested in extra help to pay for college. The American League is offering eight scholarshi­ps to be awarded in the spring of 2019.

Four of the scholarshi­ps are from the Coudret Trust Foundation in the amount of $1,000 each and four are from the Garner Trust Foundation in the amount of $2,500 each.

Another American Legion scholarshi­p is the High School Oratorical Contest.

It has been held for the past 82 years. Contestant­s will be judged on the developmen­t of leadership qualities, the ability to speak clearly and intelligen­tly, and acceptance of the responsibi­lities as well as the privileges of American citizenshi­p. First, second and third prizes will be awarded, with $2000 for first place, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third.

The local winner will also receive an all expense paid trip with a chaperone to Indianapol­is, Ind. The student will receive an additional cash scholarshi­p award of $1,500 for attending. In the final round, first place receives $18,000, second gets $16,000, and third place receives $14,000.

Students who have made a score of 22 or higher on your ACT and have overcome obstacles are eligible for the ACT Student Championsh­ip Award. Applicatio­ns are due Oct. 31.
