Several scholarship now opportunities available

Are you a senior? Going to college? Need a bit of financial help? El Dorado High School has information available for several scholarships for seniors who are interested in extra help to pay for college. The American League is offering eight scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2019.

Four of the scholarships are from the Coudret Trust Foundation in the amount of $1,000 each and four are from the Garner Trust Foundation in the amount of $2,500 each.

Another American Legion scholarship is the High School Oratorical Contest.

It has been held for the past 82 years. Contestants will be judged on the development of leadership qualities, the ability to speak clearly and intelligently, and acceptance of the responsibilities as well as the privileges of American citizenship. First, second and third prizes will be awarded, with $2000 for first place, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third.

The local winner will also receive an all expense paid trip with a chaperone to Indianapolis, Ind. The student will receive an additional cash scholarship award of $1,500 for attending. In the final round, first place receives $18,000, second gets $16,000, and third place receives $14,000.

Students who have made a score of 22 or higher on your ACT and have overcome obstacles are eligible for the ACT Student Championship Award. Applications are due Oct. 31.
