Dewey takes all-around ti­tle in Texas meet

El Do­rado gym­nast An­abelle Dewey re­cently com­peted in the Candy Cane In­vi­ta­tional in Plano, Texas. It was her first op­tional gym­nas­tics meet. Com­pet­ing in the JO Level 8 cat­e­gory, Dewey took first place in the vault and was the Al­lAround cham­pion.

Dewey, com­pet­ing for North­east Texas Elite Gym­nas­tics, posted scores of 9.450 in the vault, 8.875 in the un­even bars, 9.275 on the bal­ance beam and 9.275 on the floor ex­er­cise.

The fifth grader’s all-around to­tal of 36.8750 edged Kay­lah Pear­son of In­fi­nite Bounds (Plano), who scored 36.8500 and Ce­cilia Pare­dis of United Elite Gym­nas­tics N Cheer (Rockwall, Texas) 36.3500.

This was Dewey’s first meet us­ing her own mu­sic and her own rou­tines.

Dewey is cur­rently in Crossville, Ten­nessee train­ing for the USA Gym­nas­tics Na­tional In­vite Team.

She will com­pete in her first HOPES Elite Op­tional Meet on Feb. 1 and will try for her elite com­pul­sory score again on Jan. 31 at the Buck­eye Elite Qual­i­fier in Colum­bus, Ohio.
