Arkansas House Democrats announce tax cut plan

-

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Arkansas House Democrats are calling for scaling back the governor's tax cut proposal and offering a tax credit for low-income residents.

The Democratic caucus on Monday unveiled its tax cut proposals, a day before Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson's proposal to cut the state's top income tax rate is expected to go before a House committee.

The Democrats' proposal calls for eliminating $73 million of Hutchinson's proposal geared toward the state's highest earners. The Democrats' plan also calls for creating a 10 percent earned income tax credit that supporters say will benefit more than 300,000 households in the state.

The state Senate last week approved Hutchinson's tax cut proposal, and the bill is expected to go before a House committee on Tuesday.
