SAAC Box Office open for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"

-

The South Arkansas Arts Center box office is now open for their summer musical production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Sponsored by Murphy USA, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” will run July 18-21 and July 24-28, with the curtain rising at 7:30 p.m. for night shows and 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees.

Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, with songs from the animated Disney feature, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is a thrilling tale of history and adventure, with incredible music and fantastical characters. The production is notable for its sweeping score and powerful story, making “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” an instant classic.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in 15th century France. Quasimodo, the sensitive and misshapen bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools.

Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all except the beautiful gypsy Esmerelda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her spirit, though — the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies — and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

“It may be set in a church, but that becomes just a pretty background to address some major challenges we face every day. It’s not a journey for the faint of heart, and you will cry, either from laughing or having your heartstrings tugged,” said D. Brent Miller, music director. “So, come see “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” on stage at SAAC! It isn’t to be missed.”

Tickets for the production cost $30 for the general public, $20 for SAAC members and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the SAAC box office at 870-862-5474 or stopping by SAAC, located at 110 E. 5th St. in El Dorado.
