Police chief offers reward for Worthen
CAMDEN — A reward has been offered by Camden Police Chief Boyd Woody for information leading to the arrest of a man suspected of murdering a woman and her four-year-old son.
Camden police are offering $1,000 — a personal pledge from Woody — for help capturing 24-year-old Jory Worthen. Woody challenged others, according to a CPD Facebook post, to also put up reward money.
Police have been searching for Worthen since late June. He’s wanted in connection with the murder of
Alyssa Cannon and her son, Braydon Ponder. Worthen is described as a white male, 6’2” and 157 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was driving a white 2007 Honda Accord with the Arkansas license plate 921-YBE.
“On June 25, 2019, an investigation of a double homicide began,” CPD Investigator LaRhonda Moore said. “During this investigation, there was a substantial amount of evidence discovered to indicate Jory Worthen committed the murders. Vigorously, investigators have made attempts to locate Worthen with no success."
In 2017, Cannon filed a restraining order against Worthen, who she said had threatened to kill her and then himself.
As Patric Flannigan of the Camden News reports, Montez Charles-Xavier Woods, 22, was recently charged with hindering apprehension/prosecution for reportedly assisting Worthen.
“Over a course of two days, and at least six investigators, it was revealed Woods met with Worthen on June 27, 2019 outside of Chidester,” Moore said. “Woods later led investigators on several different versions of his meetings with Worthen. Evidence was obtained Woods had knowledge of the murder and knew Worthen’s whereabouts.”
Anyone with any information regarding the double homicide is encouraged to contact CPD at 836-5755. The FBI and Arkansas State Police are assisting in the search for Worthen.
