Smackover-Norphlet reorganizes for 2019-20

- By Jason Black

The Smackover-Norphlet School District is gearing up for an awesome school year! The faculty and administration have put in countless hours working and planning to ensure that the reorganization of the district goes well for the 2019 - 2020 school year.

The reorganization will strengthen the bonds between all of the communities that are served in our district as we work together to create the best educational opportunities for all of our students.

What does reorganization look like?

• All kindergarten through fourth-grade students will attend Smackover Elementary School.

• All fifth- through eighth-graders will attend Norphlet Middle School.

• All ninth- through 12th-graders will attend Smackover High School.

• The Smackover Preschool, which serves 6-week-olds to 4-yearolds, will relocate to the former Norphlet Elementary School building.

How will this benefit all of our students? We are one team! By having all students in the same grade level on the same campus, parents know we are utilizing the best and most consistent curriculum and programs.

With all teachers of the same grade level on the same campus, we can look forward to great communication with each other, great collaboration with parents and community members and most importantly, great teamwork!

Furthermore, we are looking into new and exciting opportunities to expand existing programs in career and technical education, agriculture, athletics, STEM, extracurricular programs and more!

The Smackover-Norphlet District is proud to offer its students some of the strongest educational and extracurricular programs in South Arkansas!

Our district recognizes that our team consists of more than our local faculty and staff.

Our team includes parents and families as equal partners with the same vision of engaging the whole child academically, developmentally and through strong social-emotional support.

Additionally, our team includes industry partners who support us in creating college and career-ready citizens who are prepared for the workforce and who are able to fill the outstanding job opportunities in South Arkansas, the state and across the nation.

Our team also includes our post-secondary education partners, like SouthArk Community College, who help us offer students the opportunity to obtain concurrent credit college hours while still enrolled in high school. Concurrent credit hours can apply toward a Certificate of General Studies. High school students may also obtain the technical knowledge that is needed for industries, including computer information processing, welding, auto mechanics, mechatronics, process technology and more.

Your child is not just another number or statistic in the Smackover-Norphlet School District. Your child is a unique individual with incredible abilities and talents waiting to be fully developed with the help of our team.

The Smackover-Norphlet School District is an exciting place for your child to be for the 2019 2020 school year!

We are one great school district with thousands of opportunities!
