An El Dorado High School student was shot and killed late Sunday night.

Octavius Critton Jr., age 17, was discovered by police in the 1200 block of California Street after they responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. at night.

Police were directed to Critton by Juston Alex Mayweather, another shooting victim, who police found inside of a house across the street in the 1200 block of Detroit Street.

Mayweather said the shooting happened on California Street. Paramedics pronounced Critton dead at the scene.

Mayweather was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. His condition has not been released.

Police have not taken anyone into custody and have not disseminated a suspect description.

The EPD Detective Division is processing numerous piece of evidence, according to a police press release, and is asking anyone with information about the ongoing investigation to contact police at 870-881-4810.

Critton’s body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime lab for an autopsy. EPD Lt. Chris Lutman said the police have plenty of people to interview and that it's possible the shooting was initiated by a "social media beef."

"There are people who will know what happened," he said.

The El Dorado School District released a statement following Critton's death expressing condolences for his family, as did Wildcats football coach Steven Jones, since Critton was a football player. Practice was canceled Monday morning due to Critton's death.
