City Arrests

• Jayvion A. Moody, 19, of the 1100 block of North Highland, was arrested Aug. 17 on a warrant for probation revocation.

• Demetris D. Wade, 19, of the 300 block of North Bradley, was arrested Aug. 13 for theft by receiving. What began as an investigat­ion into a stolen cellphone led to the recovery of a handgun that was reported stolen out of Louisiana, according to a policerepo­rt. On Aug. 12, a woman reported the theft of her cellphone, which was issued by her employer. She initially identified Wade as a potential suspect, saying that a remote location tracking applicatio­n had traced the phone to his residence. The following day, the woman said the tracking app sourced the phone to a vehicle at Dairy Queen, 2201 N. West Ave. The woman said Wade was inside the vehicle and she confronted him, telling officers she knew Wade. She said Wade denied taking the phone and left. The woman said the tracking app then led her to Wade’s residence, where she confronted him a second time. Wade said he purchased the phone “from some guy he knew” and left the residence, the woman told officers. She said she then called 911 and officers said the tracking app “pinged” to a residence in the 1100 block of North Highland. The complainan­t noted that Wade’s sister lived at the residence. Police said when they arrived, a male who had just walked inside the residence told them that Wade was not there. Officers said they asked to speak with the homeowner, the male stepped inside to get the homeowner and then left, saying, “She (sic) coming. He ain’t in there, though, but I’m getting out of here.” Police spoke with Wade’s sister, who also said Wade was notat the residence. They said the woman consented to a search of the residence and while looking for the cellphone, they found Wade inside a closet. When asked why he was hiding, Wade said, “I was told y’all was coming.” He then told officers he did not have the phone. Police saidthey saw what appeared to be the grip of a handgun protruding from underneath a pillow on a shelf just above Wade’s head. Police said they learned the gun had been reported stolen out of Arcadia, Louisiana, and they seized the gun. Wade told officers the gun did not belong to him and Wade’s sister said the gun belonged to her. She was briefly detained and released, police said. Wade was taken into custody for theft by receiving. Police did not locate the cellphone.

• Chaffin E. Brock, 35, of the 700 block

of Bruster, was arrested Aug. 13 for aggravated assault on a family or household member, second-degree terroristi­c threatenin­g and obstructio­n of government­al operations. Brock’s ex-girlfriend told police Brock threwher to the floor and choked her during an argument. The victim noted the incident took place at Brock’s mother’s residence in the 600 block of West Cedar and she yelled to his mother for help, noting that she was able to get away from Brock once his mother-entered the room. Brock’s mother told officers that she saw Brock attempting force the victim from the residence. She said a lamp had also been knocked over during the incident. Police said she requested that Brock be banned fromthe residence. Police also noted that a no-contact order the complainan­t had filed against the suspect was set to expire Aug. 14.

• James E. Smith, 48, of the 1900 block of East Second, was arrested Aug. 11 on an Arkansas Parole Board warrant for parole violation.

City Reports

• A man told police Aug. 15 that someone broke into his vehicle at his residence in the 1100 block of Edmonds and stole the radio, a portable Bluetooth speaker and 25 CDs.

• A man reported Aug. 15 the theft of a chainsaw from a toolbox in the bed of his pickup truck, which was parked at his residence in the 1200 block of East Wesson. He said the theft occurred Aug. 1.

• On Aug. 14, a man told police someone broke into his vehicle at Goodwin Animal Clinic, 1701 W. Hillsboro. The man said the suspect rifled through the glove compartmen­t. No items were reported missing. A witness reported seeing a man enter the complainan­t’s vehicle, saying it appeared the suspect removed an item from the vehicle.

• A man told police Aug. 13 that someone cut three tires on his vehicle at his residence in the 3600 block of Bishop. The man reported a similar incident Aug. 12, saying then that all four tires on his vehicle and one tire on his wife’s vehicle had been flattened.

• A man told police Aug. 12 that someone broke into his wife’s vehicle at One Community Church, 701 S. West Ave., and stole $5 cash and a several coupons. The complainan­t said he saw the suspect inside his wife’s vehicle, noting the suspect then attempted to enter the complainan­t’s vehicle in the parking lot. When the suspect saw him approachin­g, he fled on a bicycle, the man said. Moments later, the suspect ran through the parking lot, heading north. The man said he was speaking with 911 dispatcher sat the time. The suspect was described as a young black male wearing red shorts and no shirt.

• Police were called Aug. 12 to El-Ark Electric Company, 1321 N. Miles, in reference to the theft of $3,000 worth of yellow armored cable. The owner of the business said two people were captured on surveillan­ce video entering the southwest corner of the property and stealing the cable.

• A residentia­l burglary was reported Aug. 12 at a residence in the 1500 block of West Main. No items were reported missing.

• Officers responded Aug. 12 to a report of a burglary at the South Arkansas Community College Independen­t Living Laboratory, 421 W. Wesson. The complainan­t said a surveillan­ce camera was stolen and several items inside the facility were disturbed.

• A woman told officers Aug. 11 that someone broke into her residence in the 500 block of Meadow Lane. No items were reported missing. The woman said a coffee table was overturned and several DVDs were strewn about the living room.

• On Aug. 11, a man told police that someone broke into his residence in the 900 block of West Elm and stole 10 guns, a BB gun, a diamond necklace, diamond earrings and a TV. Police gathered informatio­n about potential suspects.

• A man told police Aug. 11 that three males jumped him in the parking lot of Washington Middle School, 601 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., and stole his bicycle. He said the suspects punched him and two of them held him down while the third took his bicycle and rode away. He said the other two suspects then left the area. One of the suspects was identified, according to a police report.
