PC wins thriller on road
ROSSTON – Parkers Chapel opened the girls' basketball season on Thursday with a 50-49 victory at Nevada. Ali Looney scored eight of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Trojans.
Parkers Chapel led 13-12 after one quarter and trailed 25-24 at the half. The Bluejays took a 41-38 advantage into the final quarter.
Looney drained a 3-pointer in the fourth and hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 30 seconds, including two with 15 seconds remaining to give PC a three-point lead. She combined with Drue Thomas to score all 12 of Parkers Chapel's points in the period.
Taylor Fortune scored 16 points for the Lady
Trojans with Thomas finishing with eight and Kamryn Cross seven.
Myshayla Blakely scored 15 points for Nevada with Tori Jones adding nine. The Bluejays fell to 0-6 on the season.
Parkers Chapel will travel to Little Rock on Monday to compete in the Heavenly Hoops Tournament, hosted by Mount St. Mary Academy.
The Lady Trojans will face Star City at 5:30 p.m.
BARTON FALLS
Barton's eighth-grade girls basketball team fell in its season opener on Thursday, as Magnolia's freshman squad came away with a 34-23 win at the El Dorado Wildcat Freshman Classic.
Re'Kiyah Howard had seven points and Kayln Gay added five points for Barton, who returns to action this morning at 9 a.m. against Camden Fairview's ninth-grade team.
PERRY SHINES IN WIN
After being held to four points in a loss at Northern Iowa on Wednesday, former El Dorado standout Czar Perry bounced back with a solid performance in Cal State Bakersfield's 91-51 win over Life Pacific on Friday.
Perry played nearly 28 minutes off the bench, scoring eight points while 3-of-5 from the floor. He also dished out a team-high six assists with three rebounds.
In Wednesday's 67-55 loss at Northern Iowa, Perry played 15 minutes and was 2-of-7 from the floor.
The Roadrunners hit the road for a two-game stretch starting Tuesday at San Francisco before taking on Gonzaga on Nov. 23.
