Showers in forecast today; temps to dip
Union County is under a hazardous weather outlook today as rain showers roll into the area from the west.
Lisa May, a meteorological technician at the National Weather Service Shreveport office, said yesterday that there is a 20% chance of rain this morning, which will rise to a 70% chance by afternoon.
“That’s going to cool things down, just slightly, on Wednesday,” she said.
The rain may continue into Wednesday morning as well, with a 30% chance of showers before noon that day, May said.
A flood warning has also been issued for the Ouachita River, specifically near the Thatcher Lock and Dam. Property owners in that area are advised to keep an eye on water levels, which were already above the flood stage by yesterday afternoon.
“We could see a thunderstorm or two in there,” May said. “Right now, nothing looks like it’s going to be severe.”
May said that the storms coming through aren’t expected to be severe, but noted the possibility of thunderstorms. Temperatures will stay cool until the weekend, she said, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the low 30s.
“It’s really very seasonable temperatures for us,” May said. “It will warm up slightly Saturday night to about 40 [degrees Fahrenheit].”
Fog could pose visibility problems Tuesday afternoon and evening, May said. Those traveling should be aware of the risks of low visibility and take care to drive carefully and with their low beams on.
“On the fog issue, take your time, slow down, use your low beams and just be aware of fog in your area,” May said. “If it is raining, misting — take your time. Use a little extra caution.”
This weather is typical for the season, May said. Storm systems are traveling west across the country from the Pacific Northwest and Southern Plains region.
