Main Street El Dorado gears up for Shamrockinʼ on the Square
Main Street El Dorado is inviting the public to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Shamrockin’ on the Square, which is set from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday in the Union Square District.
The second annual event will be jam-packed with food, live music, inflatables and games for the entire family.
“It will be kid-friendly with Baggo, Giant Jenga and Tic Tac Toe,” said Beth Brumley, executive director of MSE, who is presenting the free event.
LaBella Gourmet Gifts and Delicatessen, sponsor of Shamrockin’ on the Square, will host a crawfish boil and will sell mudbugs and shrimp on-site.
A beer garden will also be set up on South Washington Avenue. The cost is $5.
Smackover native Terry Lyne Moore will take the stage at 11 a.m. with a show that blends several musical genres, including gospel, country, pop, Americana and even show tunes.
Moore has served as the opening act for many well-known country music artists, such as BJ Thomas, Diamond Rio, Patty Loveless, and Brooks and Dunn.
The Bastrop, Texas, resident got her start singing with the Three Creeks Band in south Arkansas and she has become a staple at Country Opry shows in central Texas.
J.T. Lee will follow Moore with a show at 12:45 p.m.
Lee gained a local fan-base as a part of the homegrown, El Dorado group Blackstrap Molassess, who has a playlist that is made up of blues, rock and country.
He has expanded that following with solo performances at local venues, including PJ’s Coffee and Main Street Pizza.
Shamrockin’ on the Sqaure is a revival of MSE’s former St. Patrick’s Day celebration, which the group had not hosted since 2012.
“It’s is an event that we’re doing to bring people downtown,” Brumley said. “We had a really good time last year when we brought it back. There were a lot of kids down there and we hope to have a good time again this year.”
In conjunction with Shamrockin’ on the Sqaure, downtown businesses will host promotional events with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.
“Last year, it was huge. Downtown was packed and the businesses did well,” said Brumley.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to swing by other downtown events that are also scheduled for Saturday.
The Arkansas Women’s Business Center will be hosting its Spring Market from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the El Dorado Conference Center, 311 S. West Ave.
“People will be able to come and go. It’s all downtown,” Brumley said.
