State Police are investigating USCO deputy-involved shooting
Officials: No injuries reported
Union County Sheriff Ricky Roberts said Tuesday afternoon that the Arkansas State Police are investigating a UCSO deputy-involved shooting.
Roberts said there were no injuries resulting from the shooting. Additional details will be released in the upcoming days, he said.
Several deputies and UCSO vehicles could be seen around noon at a residence off Highway 82. The residence was cordoned off with police tape.
In February, the ASP and UCSO investigated another deputy-involved shooting that occurred at the UCSO facility on American Road. Two deputies were returned to duty 10 days after being placed on paid administrative leave as a result of the incident and subsequently being cleared of violating any laws or department procedures.
In that incident, Emmett K. Maroney allegedly drove his vehicle into deputies as they approached him after he was escorted out of the UCSO facility on Feb. 7. Roberts said Maroney issued threats to UCSO officers, which were reported by a passer-by. One deputy was injured in that incident. Maroney had previously been remanded to the state hospital on unrelated charges, but was placed on a waiting list and subsequently bonded out of the Union County jail prior to the incident’s occurrence.
Maroney is currently facing charges of first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree battery and aggravated assault in that case, according to court records.
This is a developing story. The News-Times will continue to report as more details become available.
