Sixteen new local COVID cases; active cases up to 70

An Arkansas Department of Health spokespers­on said there were 650 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Union County Tuesday, representi­ng an increase of 16 from Monday.

There were 559 local recoveries on Tuesday, according to the spokespers­on, up three from Monday. Active cases rose to 70, up 13 from Monday and representi­ng 10.77% of the cumulative number of cases in the county.

The ADH spokespers­on said there were 21 COVID-related deaths recorded for Union County, representi­ng no change from Monday.

Nursing home and congregate settings reports produced Monday by the ADH showed the COVID-19 outbreak at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home had grown. Timberlane Health and Rehab, where eight workers and eight residents have tested positive, did not show any increase in cases in the report. One resident at Timberlane has died as a result of the virus, according to previous ADH reports. Monday’s report listed all eight workers at Timberlane who had tested positive for COVID as being recovered.

According to Monday’s nursing home report, nine new resident cases were identified at Hudson between Friday and Monday, though according to the report, the most recent positive test result was returned on Thursday, Aug. 20. The total number of resident cases at the facility was 14 Monday, according to the report. Nine workers there have also tested positive, including two whose cases were identified between Friday and Monday; according to the report, the most recent positive worker’s test result returned Friday.

No changes were reported in either facility’s number of cases in the nursing home report produced by the ADH Tuesday.

Arkansas saw its number of confirmed COVID-19 cases grow by 480 to reach a cumulative total of 57,374 Tuesday. Of those, 51,351 were considered recovered, leaving 5,312 cases — 9.26% of the cumulative total — active statewide.

The deaths of 15 Arkansans that resulted from COVID-19 were reported Tuesday, bringing the state’s death toll to 711, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.24%. The total number of Arkansans hospitaliz­ed due to the virus decreased by 24 to 442, while the number of Arkansans on ventilator support stayed steady at 108.

The ADH reported 3,300 test results returned Tuesday, indicating a one-day positivity rate for the state of 14.55% based on the number of new cases and results reported. So far in August, 143,752 COVID-19 test results have returned to the ADH.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Johns Hopkins

reported 5,773,220 COVID-19 cases in the United States. Of those, 2,020,774 were considered recovered, leaving 3,574,120 cases — 61.91% — active nationwide. There had been 178,326 deaths attributab­le to the virus in the U.S. by Tuesday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.1%.

Johns Hopkins reported 23,750,184 COVID-19 cases worldwide Tuesday afternoon. Of those, 15,401,417 were considered recovered, leaving 7,533,022 cases — 31.72% — active around the world. There had been 815,745 deaths attributab­le to the virus by Tuesday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 3.43%.
