Oilers roll to 11-3 win at Texarkana

TEXARKANA – The El Dorado Oilers snapped their two-game losing streak and won their 20th game of the season by scoring the game's first eight runs en route to an 11-3 win at Texarkana Tuesday night in zone 4 play.

Ashton Yarbrough homered to lead a 15-hit barrage to support a solid outing by Baylor Brumley.

The Oilers seized control early on thanks to a five-run first.

Tanner McLelland, who went 4-for-5, got his big night started with a single.

McLelland stole second and Jacob Eubanks singled to left to put runners at the corners.

The Oilers loaded the bases after Yarbrough was hit by a pitch, and Tyler Johnson got the Oilers on the scoreboard with a two-run single to left-center.

Rhett Richardson followed with a double down the right-field line to score Yarbrough to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead.

The visitors padded their lead moments later on Chase Brumley's single to left-center that brought home Johnson to make it 4-0.

With runners at the corners, Brumley stole second, and Josh Saulsbury drove in a run with a ground out to third.

The Oilers added to their lead in the fourth.

Brumley got the rally started with a single to left and stole second.

One out later, Braden Doherty walked and Jax Todd singled to load the bases.

McLelland then laced a first-pitch single to right-center to score Brumley and Doherty to give the Oilers a 7-0 lead.

Todd was thrown out trying to advance to third, but McLelland was able to take second on the play.

Baylor Brumley then helped himself by lining a double to right-center to score McLelland to extend the Oilers' lead to 8-0.

Yarbrough did all of the Oilers' damage in the seventh by crushing a tworun homer to right-center with McLelland scoring after he singled for his

fourth hit of the game.

The Oilers' final run came in the eighth. Richardson reached on a bloop single to left, stole second, took third on a balk and scored on Chase Brumley's base hit to left.

Staked to a big lead, Baylor Brumley (4-1) worked six solid innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits and one run with three walks and five strikeouts.

Eubanks allowed two unearned runs in two innings in relief. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Chase Brumley worked a scoreless ninth to close out the Oilers' win.

McLelland scored three runs, stole a base and had two RBIs on his four-hit night, while Brumley stole three bases and drove in two runs while going 3-for-4.

Johnson and Richardson were each 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Johnson collected two RBIs, while Richardson scored two runs and had one RBI.

Yarbrough also walked and scored twice in addition to his two-run homer in the seventh.

Baylor Brumley, Eubanks and Todd each had one hit to round out the Oilers' attack.

The Oilers (20-8-1, 6-1), who reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight year, hit the road for a zone doublehead­er at Lake Hamilton on Friday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

SEASON ENDS FOR DRILLERS

The El Dorado Drillers saw their season end with a 17-2 loss to Sheridan at the Arkansas American Legion Junior Zone 4 Tournament Tuesday night.

The Drillers (13-9) opened the tournament with a 9-6 win over Arkadelphi­a before being downed by Texarkana and Sheridan on consecutiv­e nights.
