El Dorado Gospel Fest set for September 4

- By Matt Hutcheson Staff Writer

El Dorado will host its very own free gospel festival on Saturday, September 4, courtesy of an all-family team of local Christian rappers Jonathan and Samuel Wofford, also known as J2W and Young Deac, along with their mother Emma Wofford, AKA Lady E.

The festival will feature a mixture of Christian rap and gospel artists, some local and some from out of state.

Headlining the festival will be Memphis-based Christian rapper Murk. J2W and Young Deac regularly conduct interviews with Christian rappers for Magic 104.5 in Camden, including Murk.

“Murk has been all over the nation touring and ministering and she’s now an independent artist. She has a few albums out and has been doing it for a few years and has been all over. We’re excited to have her come down,” J2W said.

Other artists set to perform include The Anointed Shutes Sisters, Young Deac, J2W, the C&W Gospel Singers, YAS (Young Artist Studio), Sharicia Wright, The Angelic Voices and the Transformation Worship Center Youth Dept.

While the Transformation Worship Center Youth Dept will travel from Memphis to perform, the other artists will have a significantly shorter commute.

“Everybody else is local. Sharicia Wright has a new single called ‘Higher’ that is awesome. The Anointed Shue Sisters have been singing probably for 25 or 30 years and are local and C&W has also been around for over 20 years. YAS is a younger group that has been helping in the community and ministering for some time now,” J2W said. A few additional rappers not currently listed on the line-up are also set to take the stage.

J2W said he and his fellow organizers are looking forward to making the gospel festival a reality and hopefully continuing it in subsequent years.

“This is our first major concert so hopefully we can do it again next year and bring more artists down. We’re excited and ready for it. It’s a free concert so we hope people come and enjoy it and have a night to remember,” he said.

All attendees are asked to wear a mask to be admitted; masks will also be provided at the entrance.

The concert is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the El Dorado Conference Center.
