Lady Wildcats fall short at Benton; Lady Bucks stare down Hampton

BENTON – Benton pulled away from El Dorado in the second half on Friday and downed the Lady Wildcats 68-44 in non-conference action. El Dorado's varsity girls slipped to 1-1 on the season.

The game was knotted 26-26 at the half. But the Lady Panthers outscored El Dorado 23-9 in the third quarter and 19-9 in the fourth to pull away to the win.

Carshaila Rozier and Lauren Nelson led El Dorado with 12 points apiece with Lindsey Lockhart adding seven.

“We put up a good fight most of the game,” said El Dorado coach Ashlee Curtis. “We have a few days before we take on Camden for our first home game. Back to the lab we go.”

Smackover 34, Hampton 27

HAMPTON – The Lady Bucks built a 24-10 halftime lead and then held on for a non-conference win at Hampton on Friday. Smackover improved to 2-3 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the third quarter and closed the gap to 30-27 with 5:27 left in the fourth quarter.

Laylah Gaston led Smackover with 12 points while Carlie Crawford scored 11.

Smackover also won the junior boys game 47-33 to improve their record to 5-1 on the season.

Nolan Dismuke had 15 points and Deondre Smith added 14 points for the Bucks.

Gurdon 48, Parkers Chapel 41

GURDON – Gurdon shot 38 free throws, including 18 in the fourth quarter, and knocked off the Lady Trojans on Friday. Parkers Chapel slipped to 2-4 on the season.

PC jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first but was outscored 11-2 in the second quarter.

Madison Sullivan led the Lady Trojans with 12 points. Bella Frisby scored nine with Rebekah Hardy and Tess Monteith adding eight and seven, respective­ly.

Ashley Blaloch led the Lady Go-Devils with 17 points while Rayann Williams scored 15.
