Barton book sale kicks off tomorrow

- By Caitlan Butler Managing Editor

The Friends of Barton Library Book Sale is back, starting tomorrow.

The used book sale will be open to Friends of Barton Library on Monday before opening to the public on Tuesday.

The sale will continue through Saturday, April 2.

Week day hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and next Saturday, the book sale will be open from noon to 3 p.m.

The sale is held in the pavilion on the east side of the Barton Library, 200 E. 5th in El Dorado. Rain or shine, books will be available there this week.

Cash or checks are accepted as payment.

The twice-annual book sale is organized by the Friends of Barton Library and is typically the largest fundraiser of the year for the library.

Funds raised go toward special projects. For example, the 2020 book sales bought new tables for the children’s section of the Barton Library.

Books and magazines are donated to the sale by local residents, Friends of the library and the library itself. All types of books will be available at the book sale, from sci-fi and fantasy to children’s and how-to.

The Friends of Barton Library is a nonprofit, and the member’s only first-pick sale on Monday is just one benefit of joining the organization. Dues are $5 for an individual, or $10 for a family, and the group holds meetings and hosts local authors when able, though the COVID-19 pandeimic has affected those efforts in recent years.

The Barton Library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
