Wildcats win Magnolia Spring Break Tournament

MAGNOLIA – El Dorado’s spring break proved to be a very profitable one.

On Saturday night, the Wildcats capped a dominant run at the Magnolia Spring Break Tournament by downing Magnolia 10-0 in five innings to win the title.

The Wildcats advanced to the finals with a 6-1 win over Camden Fairview earlier in the day, overcoming five errors thanks to Landen Rainwater racking up 13 strikeouts in five innings of work.

In the finals, Justin Dumas fired a three-hit shutout for El Dorado’s second shutout of the tournament and fourth of the season. He walked five and struck out six.

The Wildcats broke the game open with five runs in the second.

El Dorado had great balance with eight players collecting at least one hit in the win.

Rhett Richardson went 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the Wildcats, while Joseph Bolin went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

Ashton Yarbrough had a triple, drove in two runs and scored three runs for the Wildcats.

Holden Lowry also had two RBIs to go along with a single. Hunter Lawrence had a double to account for the Wildcats’ other extra-base hit in the win. He had one RBI.

Rainwater and Austin Jobe each had a single and an RBI with Aaron Ezell picking up a base hit to round out the Wildcats.

In the semifinals, Rainwater allowed just three hits and one unearned run. He walked two.

John Robert Burson worked two scoreless frames to pick up the save. He allowed one hit and struck out one to give El Dorado 14 strikeouts total.

In the three games in Magnolia, El Dorado pitchers allowed just eight hits and one unearned run in 19 innings of work with 30 strikeouts.

The Wildcats scored twice in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead before they tacked on two runs in the seventh.

Bolin homered as part of a two-hit game, drove in two runs and drew two walks for the Wildcats.

Prior to his three-hit game, Richardson went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Kolin Parker had a double and drove in two runs with Rainwater delivering a triple and two RBIs. Lawrence had single for EHS, who had seven hits.

Winners of seven straight, El Dorado (11-2) is slated to play at Nashville on Monday.
