Chen, Prothro earn scholarships
KidsNGolf announces El Dorado High School’s Daphny Chen and Parkers Chapel High School’s Gavin Prothro as the 2022 Ryan Burns Scholarship recipients, according to KNG Executive Director Art Noyes.
These students are members of their high school golf teams and were selected by the KNG coaches to attend the advanced skills golf camp at the University of Oklahoma led by players, coaches and head coach Ryan Hybl.
Chen and Prothro are active participants in KNG, PREPGolf and SouthArk Junior Golf.
They were recognized for their commitment to practice, improvement, competition, personal character and integrity.
Each June, KNG sends a boy and a girl to benefit from the coaching and inspiration of this challenging week of high-level golf instruction.
Players meet other golfers from around the country and spend the week in the college dorms, team-training facilities and the Charlie Coe Golf Center striving to become the best golfers they can be.
The first Union County junior golfer to attend was Ryan Burns in 2018.
The Ryan Burns Scholarship is in memory and tribute to Ryan’s love for the game, his sportsmanship in tournament play and his desire to always be improving on and off the golf course.
KNG has earned the reputation as a great way to introduce young boys and girls to the game of golf. In recent years, many of these youngsters have grown to become outstanding players, winning state championships, scholarships and golf tournaments in multiple states.
KNG provides golf and life skills training to boys and girls, 8 to 18, each Saturday morning at the Lions Club Golf Course from 10:00 to 11:30.
There is also PREPGolf for more experienced players on Saturday afternoons at the El Dorado Country Club at 2:00.
