Midyett returns to guide Parkers Chapel’s offense

When Parkers Chapel's offense takes the field, it will do so with a familiar face at the helm.

Jacob Midyett, who was PC's head coach from 201718, is back as the offensive coordinator.

“I am excited to be back, especially proud to see the type of young men that some of the guys I coached in seventh and eighth grade have become,” Midyett said.

Midyett has had to adapt to not only his personnel, but with the Trojans going to eight-man football, he had to adjust to the format.

“There is an obvious difference between the eightand 11-man games, and there will definitely be things we do with one group that we don't do with the other,” Midyett said. “However, I think the overall scheme and base plays, we were able to keep the same in both settings.”

Midyett believes going to eight-man will benefit the Trojans' skill players.

“I think since we've started the program, it's never been a skill issue, it's always been a depth issue,” Midyett said. “I think eight-man will allow us to showcase some of the skill that we do have.”

Midyett has a young quarterback in sophomore Dyson Dougan along with a veteran in senior Payton Willeford.

“Two very athletic competitors with different skill sets that compliment each other well,” Midyett said of the duo.

If he isn't playing at quarterback, Willeford leads a deep brigade in the backfield that includes sophomore Isaiah Gray, senior Jaylen Gray and junior Dylan Davies.

“It could be a focal point of our offense this year,” Midyett said. “It's a good mix of youth and experience that will hopefully lead us.”

The Trojans have several candidates that will need to replace the production of graduated wide receiver Lancer Clark. Sophomore Ethan Mayweather, senior Branson Bryant, junior Jayden James and Gray are all in the mix with seniors Elijah Brown and Evan Golden working at tight end.

“I think we have some skill guys who are poised to break out this year and put up some points for us,” Midyett said.

On the line, senior Ethan Farrish and sophomore Rafe Palculict are working at left tackle with junior Jayson James at center and Davies at right tackle.

“We should have the size to move people around this year,” Midyett said. “Definitely our most veteran group.”

If the Trojans are to have success in their first year of eight-man football on offense, Midyett said how Parkers Chapel fares in the battle in the trenches will be crucial.

“The keys for success for us will be how well we're able to control the line of scrimmage,” Midyett said. “Whether it's in the run game or the passing game, our offensive line is going to be what drives us.”
