White Hall takes 5-4 victory over Wildcats

WHITE HALL - The season may not officially be a week old, but it seems El Dorado and White Hall are well-versed in playing thrillers.

Earlier this week, the Wildcats topped the Bulldogs 5-4 in walkoff fashion.

In the rematch on Friday, it was the Bulldogs who prevailed 5-4 in 5A South play with Cade Harp's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth erasing a 4-3 deficit and spoiling a terrific outing by El Dorado's Holden Lowry.

A junior, Lowry racked up 13 strikeouts while issuing just one walk en route to a six-hitter. Lowry needed just 83 pitches to go the distance, throwing 59 strikes.

But in addition to Harp's tworun homer in the fifth, Jace Johnson connected for a threerun homer in the third to erase the Wildcats' 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats (2-1, 1-1) scored twice in the first with Sam York driving in a run with a base hit, as well as one run in the third to take their aforementioned lead before Johnson's blast in the bottom of the third tied the game.

York gave the Wildcats their second lead of the game with a solo home run in the fifth, but Harp's two-run blast in the bottom half of the frame proved to be the difference in the game.

Aidan Harrell, who has signed with South Arkansas Community College, picked up the win in relief. Harrell worked the final five innings, allowed three hits and two runs. He walked five and struck out seven.

The Wildcats were held to just four hits in the contest with York going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. He also scored two runs and stole a base.

Justin Dumas, whose bases-loaded walk in the seventh gave the Wildcats their walkoff win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday, had an RBI and a walk.

Hunter Lawrence had a double for his fourth extra-base hit in three games, and Peyton Howard went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and scored a run for the Wildcats.

El Dorado will return to action on Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Pine Bluff in a 5A South tilt.
