CROSSETT - After two tough losses, Smackover earned its first softball victory on Friday, 5-3 over Crossett. The Lady Bucks improved to 1-2 with the non-conference road victory.

The Lady Eagles led 1-0 before Smackover scored two in the top of the fifth. Crossett scored a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game but the Lady

Bucks scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Emily Camacho was the winning pitcher. The sophomore allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts in seven innings.

Smackover had six hits and committed three errors.

“Camacho pitched a real good game,” said Smackover coach Dennis Steele. “I thought (Jaylyn) Crawford at first base made a couple nice plays. We made some key plays.”

Crossett scored a run in the first before Smackover took the lead in the fifth. Julia James and Gretchen Goodwin both singled and scored on a two-out, tworun hit by Abby Brewer.

After the Lady Eagles tied the game, Smackover went back on top when Camacho singled and scored on a double by Presley Ainsworth. Three errors by Crossett led to two more runs in the seventh.

Crossett plated a run in the bottom of the seventh and had two runners on when Camacho retired the final batter on a ground out to James at third.

Brewer had two hits and two RBI to lead Smackover.

“I thought Gretchen Goodwin hit the ball good. Julia James hit the ball good. The big hit was Brewer's two RBIs in the fifth and Ainsworth doubled in the sixth with two outs. She hit the ball really good,” said Steele.

“We played six freshmen tonight, a sophomore pitching - it was big for us. They're not a bad team. Crossett has got some speed and they hit the ball pretty good. So, I was happy.”
