Local man gets 20 years for sexual indecency with a minor

An El Dorado man has been sentenced to serve 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections after pleading guilty on Thursday to five counts of sexual indecency with a minor.

Christian Taylor Evans, 30, pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal offered by the

13th Circuit Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Additional charges, including sexual assault and failing to report an address change as a sex offender, were not prosecuted as part of the bargain.

Evans was arrested in December 2021 after Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report described in court records as “a man exposing himself to a child” at a residence in the Parkers Chapel area.

Witnesses on the scene told investigators that a minor male showed his mother a phone video of a neighbor — later identified as Evans — exposing himself to four local minors in his home and forcing one of the minors to touch him.

The witnesses also showed the video to a deputy on the scene, according to court records, and told investigators that the video was taken by one of the victims present during the incident.

After reviewing the evidence, deputies went to Evans’ residence and took him into custody.

Evans was set to go to trial on March 27, and accepted the plea agreement in the final pretrial hearing held on March 16 during a criminal docket in Judge Spencer Singleton’s 13th Circuit, Division 6 court. According to court records, Evans was sentenced to four years in prison for each count of sexual indecency with a minor; the sentences will run consecutively.

Evans was still being held at the Union County Detention Center as of Friday afternoon.
