Southern Miss eliminates Auburn from its own regional

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Christophe­r Sargent hit a three-run home run, Dustin Dickerson hit two solo shots, and Southern Miss defeated Auburn 7-2 on Saturday, eliminatin­g the Tigers from their own regional.

A solo shot by Danny Lynch in the eighth inning gave the Golden Eagles four home runs for the game.

Second-seeded Southern Miss (42-18) will play on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's other game between No. 4 Penn and No. 3 Samford.

Sargent's first-inning home run got the Golden Eagles started and the 3-0 lead was enough as Auburn managed only a pair of RBI singles — by Chris Stanfield and Cooper McMurray — in the sixth inning.

Starter Billy Oldham (7-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Will Armistead finished with 3 1/3 scoreless innings.

The Tigers (34-23-1) had runners on first and second in the ninth but did not score against Armistead.

Auburn lost to Penn 6-3 in the opening round on Friday.

Dallas Baptist 18, Oklahoma State 4

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Miguel Santos hit three of Dallas Baptist's six home runs as the Patriots beat No. 1 seed Oklahoma State 18-4 Saturday to eliminate the Cowboys from the Stillwater Regional.

Santos finished 4 for 6 with nine RBIs and four runs.

No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist (46-15) will play the loser between Washington — which beat the Patriots 9-5 in opening game of the regional — and Oral Roberts in a loser-out game Sunday.

Kodie Kolden and Nathan Humphreys hit back-to-back homers to lead off the fourth inning and Santos added a tworun shot that made it 4-1. Santos added an RBIdouble in DBU's six-run fifth inning, Kolden added a second lead-off homer before Santos hit a threerun shot in the sixth and another in the seventh to make it 18-1.

Nolan Schubart hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to give Oklahoma State a 1-0 lead. Adkison and Mendham each hit and RBI single in the seventh and Roc Riggio capped the scoring with a solo shot in the eighth.

Oklahoma State (41-20) lost its last three games of the season.

Zach Heaton (5-1) gave up four hits and three runs with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Louisiana 19, Maine 10

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Carson Roccaforte hit a three-run home run to help power a nine-run seventh-inning rally that carried Louisiana past Maine 19-10 in an eliminatio­n game at the Coral Gables Regional Saturday.

The teams combined for 31 base hits and seven home runs in the slugfest.

The Ragin' Cajuns (4123) advanced to another loser-out game on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's late game between top-seeded Miami and second-seeded Texas.

Louisiana scored all of its runs in bunches, pushing across four runs in the second inning, and three in both the fourth and fifth before erupting for nine in the seventh on eight hits.

Connor Higgs opened the seventh by drawing a walk and scored on a deep double to left center by Julian Brock. Caleb Stelly and CJ Willis each followed with two-run singles. Roccaforte followed with a three-run home run and Higgs capped his inning with a two-run shot to left.

Jake Marquez, Jeremiah Jenkins and Dean O'Neill each homered for Maine (32-21).

Carson Fluno (4-1) worked seven innings in the start for the Ragin' Cajuns, scattering five runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking out four.

Caleb Leys (5-1) worked four innings for the Black Bears, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks and took the loss.

George Mason 11, Northeaste­rn 3

WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. (AP) — Chad Gartland went the distance and Evan Blanchard and Carson Pracht each drove in five runs to carry George Mason past Northeaste­rn 11-3 in an eliminatio­n game at the Winston-Salem Regional on Saturday.

The Patriots (35-26) advance to face the loser of Saturday's late game between top-seeded Wake Forest and second-seeded Maryland on Sunday.

Gartland (7-2) scattered seven hits over nine innings and all three Northeaste­rn runs came on solo home runs by Spenser Smith, Harrison Feinberg and Alex Lane.

Blanchard hit a pair of two-run singles and added a fifth RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning. Pracht doubled to drive in two runs in the sixth, hit an RBI single in the eighth and singled home two more in the ninth.

George Mason amassed a dozen hits and drew six walks off five Huskies pitchers.

Aivan Cabral (9-4)started for Northeaste­rn (4416) and allowed four runs on four hits and a pair of walks over four innings to take the loss.

Xavier 7, Eastern Illinois 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ethan Bosacker allowed four hits with six strikeouts in a complete game shutout, Andrew Walker went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs to help Xavier beat Eastern Illinois 7-0 Saturday in an eliminatio­n game at the Nashville Regional.

No. 3 seed Xavier (3824) plays the winner between Oregon — which beat the Musketeers 5-4 in the regional's opener — and No. 6 national seed Vanderbilt in a loser-out game Sunday.

Jared Cushing scored on an RBI groundout by Grant Stephenson to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning and Walker hit a threerun shot in the fifth to make it 5-0. McCormick added a two-RBI single in the seventh inning and Jack Housinger scored on a groundout by Walker to cap the scoring in the eights.

No. 4 seed Eastern Illinois (38-21), which set a program record for single-season wins, never moved a runner beyond first base.

Charlotte 9, Lipscomb 2

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Eli Weisner belted a threerun, pinch-hit home run to get the offense started, Wyatt Hudepohl struck out 11 batters in eight innings, and Charlotte cruised past Lipscomb 9-2 on Saturday in an eliminatio­n game at the Clemson Regional.

Pinch-hitting for Spencer Nolan, Weisner hit a three-run home run and two batters later Jack Dragum followed with a two-run shot in the 49ers' five-run fourth inning that gave them a 5-2 lead. Charlotte added three runs in the seventh on a sac fly, a wild pitch and a solo home run by Brandon Stahlman, who also had an RBI-single in the eighth.

Lipscomb got two runs off Hudepohl on a double by Mason Lundgrin in the third but managed a total of only six hits.

Hudepohl (7-6) was relieved by Clark Dearman to open the ninth and Lipscomb (36-26) went down in order.

No. 3-seed Charlotte (3527) advances to a game on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's later game between top-seeded Clemson and No. 2-seed Tennessee.

Coastal Carolina 12, UNC-Wilmington 2

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Graham Brown belted a first-inning grand slam and Riley Eikhoff pitched a complete game six-hitter to carry top-seeded Coastal Carolina past UNC-Wilmington 12-2 in a loser-out game at the NCAA Conway Regional on Saturday afternoon.

The top-seeded Chanticlee­rs advance to face the loser of Saturday's late game between Rider and Duke on Sunday.

UNC-Wilmington starter Zane Taylor gave up three straight base hits to load the bases in the first inning, and with two out, Brown hit an opposite field homer to put Coastal Carolina in front for good. Caden Bodine added a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Eikoff pitched the first Coastal Carolina complete game in an NCAA tournament since 2016, giving up a two-run home run to Alex DeMartino in the seventh inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

West Virginia 13, Ball State 5

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — J.J. Wetherholt drove in four runs, Logan Sauve drove in three, and West Virginia rolled past Ball State 13-5 on Saturday in an eliminatio­n game at the Lexington Regional.

Wetherholt belted a three-run home run in the third and Sauve added a two-run shot in the fourth as the Mountainee­rs took a 7-5 lead.

Ball State (36-23) scored one in the second inning and four players had RBI singles in the third, but the Cardinals were shut down the rest of the way. WVU relievers Aidan Major (4-2) and Noah Short allowed one hit and one base runner over the final six innings. Major struck out eight in five innings and Short finished with a 1-2-3 ninth.

West Virginia added five runs in the top of the ninth inning when Dayne Leonard had a two-run single, Tevin Tucker drove in two with a double and Sauve delivered an RBIsingle.

Second-seeded West Virginia (40-19) advances to a game on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's later game between top-seeded regional host Kentucky and No. 3-seed Indiana.

UConn 9, Florida A&M 6

GAINESVILL­E, Fla. (AP) — Ben Huber hit a clutch home run, UConn allowed one run over the final four innings, and the Huskies defeated Florida A&M 9-6 on Saturday in an eliminatio­n game at the Gainesvill­e Regional.

Connecticu­t led 5-4 heading to the eighth inning, then scored three runs on a sacrifice fly and Huber's two-run home run. The Huskies added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice bunt by Korey Morton. David Smith had two hits and drove in two runs.

Devin Kirby (7-1) pitched four innings in relief, allowing two runs on four hits. Justin Willis pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 12th save.

Solo home runs by Ty Hanchey, Jared Weber, Janmikell Bastardo and Joseph Pierini kept FAMU (29-30) close, but the Rattlers managed only four other hits.

Zach Morea (4-4) was the losing pitcher in relief.

No. 2-seed UConn (4416) advances to the game on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's later game between top-seeded regional host Florida and No. 3-seed Texas Tech.

Oklahoma 10, Army 1

CHARLOTTES­VILLE, Va. (AP) — Braxton Douthit pitched a complete-game four-hitter, Bryce Madron drove in four runs, and Oklahoma routed Army 10-1 on Saturday in a loser-out game at the Charlottes­ville Regional.

Douthit allowed Ross Friedrick's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning but otherwise shut down the Black Knights, striking out seven. He walked four and threw one wild pitch.

Madron had a two-run triple in OU's five-run fifth inning. Kendall Pettis had a two-run double in the inning and Anthony Mackenzie added a run-scoring single.

Madron also had an RBIdouble in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the third. Oklahoma's leadoff hitter, John Spikerman, had two singles, stole three bases and scored three runs.

No. 3-seed Oklahoma (32-27) advances to a Sunday game against the loser of Saturday's later game between top-seeded regional host Virginia and No. 2-seed East Carolina.

Army's Mike Ruggieri (9-2) allowed six hits and five runs in four-plus innings.

The Black Knights (3818) lost their two regional games by a combined score of 25-2.

Campbell 10, Central Connecticu­t 5

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Bryce Arnold tied the game with a grand slam, Jarrod Belbin added a three-run home run, and Campbell defeated Central Connecticu­t 10-5 on Saturday in an eliminatio­n game at the Columbia Regional.

The Camels trailed 5-0 entering the seventh inning and loaded the bases on a double and two walks. One run scored on an infield single by Dalen Thompson and, one out later, Arnold went deep to left field.

In the eighth, Belbin's three-run home run capped another five-run inning and made him the first 20-20 player in program history.

Three Campbell relievers held the Blue Devils (36-14) scoreless over the final four innings. Ty Cummings (6-2) got the win.

Central Connecticu­t's Joe Rios had three hits, including a solo home run, and scored twice. Aidan Redahan had three hits and an RBI, and Jeff Nicol added a solo home run.

Second-seeded Campbell (45-14) advances to a game on Sunday against the loser of Saturday's later game between regional host South Carolina and North Carolina State.
