Grambling State to face Alcorn State

By Grambling State Sports Informatio­n LORMAN, Miss. — Grambling State, fresh off a 35-20 win over Prairie View A&M, hits the road to take on Alcorn State in a Southweste­rn Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Division clash.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Tigers and Braves are long-time adversarie­s, with Grambling State holding a 47-23-3 lead in the overall series. Last year, Grambling State beat Alcorn State 35-6 at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium.

Grambling State enters Saturday's contest tied for first place in the SWAC West with a 2-0 mark in conference and an overall record of 3-2.

The Tigers are seeking its fourth consecutiv­e win and it's first 3-0 SWAC start since 2017.

The Grambling State offense has experience­d a revival this season and currently tops the SWAC in multiple categories. The offense is No. 1 in scoring offense (33.8), rushing yards (924), total yards (2,039), total touchdowns (21) and yards per game (407.8).

Last weekend, the Grambling State rushed for over 200 yards for the third consecutiv­e weekend and starting QB Myles Crawley continued to lead the offense, going 26-of-41 for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Grambling State's defense was active against Prairie View A&M, registerin­g a season-high four sacks and forcing an intercepti­on.

Lewis Matthews continues to be the engine of the defense. He has a team-high 44 total tackles with 2 1/2 tackles for a loss.

On the other sideline, Alcorn State is hoping to avoid losing its homecoming game. The Braves kept pace in the SWAC by defeating Alabama State 23-20 last week.

Quarterbac­k Aaron Allen earned SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for the Braves after torching the Hornets' secondary for 370 yards, 2 touchdowns and an intercepti­on while completing 32-of-46 passes.

Jarvean Howard leads the Alcorn State ground game with 230 yards and three touchdowns on 64 carries.

On defense, linebacker Terreance Ellis is the leader with 51 total tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.
