Dragons knock off Hampton

HAMPTON - Fresh off of a bye week, Junction City began the home stretch of the regular season with a dominant performanc­e.

Brady Penister, Jordavion Williams and Dovonte' Grimes each had two touchdowns with the latter scoring one on defense to lead the Dragons past Hampton 49-6 on Friday night.

The Dragons did all of their scoring in the first half, taking a 35-0 lead after one period of play.

Penister opened the scoring at the 10:34 mark of the first period with an 11-yard touchdown run with the first of Cole Hanry's seven extra points making it 7-0.

The Dragons' defense then came up with a big play thanks to Grimes, who stripped the ball away from the Hampton ball carrier and raced 7 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0 with 7:39 left in the quarter.

Just over three minutes later, Williams scored on a 3-yard run to extend the lead to 21-0.

Penister then scored on a 25-yard run 98 seconds later to push the lead to 28-0.

With 55 seconds left in the quarter, Grimes burst through a hole and scampered 35 yards for his second touchdown of the evening to make it 35-0.

In the second quarter, Williams broke free for a 73-yard scoring run, and the Dragons' special teams scored their final points of the game with Dominique Grimes returning a punt 54 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown that pushed the lead to 49-0.

Hampton's lone touchdown came with six minutes left in the game, as Aden Williams connected with Braiden Giraud on an 11-yard strike that capped the scoring in the contest.

The Dragons (5-3) host Horatio next week.
