Local family is headed to Disney through Make-a-Wish Foundation
A local family is headed to Disney World today thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Chemistry Williams is only 4 years old and few deserve a trip to Disney World more.
Chemistry’s mother, Nahi Williams, said she found out she was pregnant with Chemistry at 4 months gestation. Following ultrasound, doctors found that Chemistry “had a bump on the back of her neck,” Williams said.
Following further genetics testing, Nahi learned that her daughter has Turner Syndrome.
Turner Syndrome is, according to the Mayo Clinic, “a condition that affects only females” that is caused by a missing or partially missing X chromosome. Turner syndrome can cause a variety of medical and developmental problems, including short height, failure of the ovaries to develop and heart defects.
“It’s very rare, we didn’t know what to expect and had a lot of emotions. I also did a lot of research,” Williams said.
Chemistry remained in the hospital for 2-and-a-half months after she was born, an experience that was grueling according to her mother.
“It was horrible, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy,” Williams said.
Chemistry has had open heart surgery and has faced other health issues because of Turner Syndrome. Still, Nahi said, the family count their blessings.
“Turner can be mild to very severe and I feel like she’s mild… She is sharp as a whip and we don’t handicap her. The whole family pitches in.. and we follow up with 5 specialists,” she said.
Chemistry is the jewel of the family that includes dad Corey Williams and two older siblings, according to Nahi.
Earlier this year, one of Chemistry’s

doctors referred the family to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
“I had heard of it but I never thought that it would be our family or would be Chemistry,” Williams said.
They did a round of interviews with Make a Wish representatives and in June found out that Chemistry had been approved.
She added that the Make a Wish representatives have been “so loving and caring” and the process has been painless, with the organization taking care of everything was the approval portion is completed.
The family is leaving today for a seven-day trip, their first to Disney World and will return just in time for Christmas.
“Chemistry has come a long way… and we’re excited,” Williams said.
