Caroling brings Christmas cheer to residents at Courtyard Health and Rehab

- BY MATTHEW HUTCHESON NEWS EDITOR

Local residents joined with staff at Courtyard Health and Rehab to spread Christmas cheer through the facility on Saturday.

Staff met with people representing local businesses and churches to go caroling through the Courtyard building Saturday morning, delighting residents who piled into the facility’s dining rooms to listen.

“Courtyard is not just a facility, it truly is a community. Our mission as a therapy department is to increase the quality of life of each elder while they are here,” said Ashley Matthews, a speech pathologist at Courtyard who led the caroling.

“Some come to us from the hospital to get rehab to go home and some are long-term residents. No matter the reason, we focus on serving them and providing experiences that bring back good memories and joy, such as this caroling event,” she continued.

Following each mini-concert, the carollers passed out gifts for the gathered Courtyard residents such as Christmas cards.

The caroling continued into the hallways and even to a few individual rooms in the facility.

Also as part of the event, 50 bird feeders donated by Roseburg were set to be placed in each room at Courtyard.

Mathews said many residents enjoy watching birds and would now each have a bird feeder in their room to attract them.

Ashley Wilson, a physical therapist at Courtyard, extended thanks to the businesses and organizations that helped out.

“Courtyard Health and Rehab in partnership with ProCare Therapy Services would like to give a huge thanks to Roseburg Forest Products for donating 50 bird feeders, Liberty Supply in Magnolia for donating all the shepherd hooks to hang the feeders, Topanga Scents, Crossroads Baptist Church, Knowles Baptist Church, Katie King and the GT students in El Dorado School District and all the others in the community who donated not only gifts and money but also their time to our Christmas cheer mission,” Wilson said.
