Guitarist Monte Montgomery to perform at MAD on June 8

Legendary musician hailed as a ‘musical force to be reckoned with’

“I’ve resisted temptation to be just that guitar gunslinger from Austin, Texas. I strive to have more depth, to be more layered as an artist, songwriter and singer.”

The Murphy Arts District has announced that Monte Montgomery will perform in the First Financial Music Hall on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The show will start at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $30 - $50 for standard reserved seating and $50 for reserved pit table seats. Tickets are on sale now at eldomad.com.

Montgomery has been called “one of the most incredible guitarists on the planet” by Rolling Stone Magazine and a “musical force to be reckoned with” by Guitar Player Magazine.

You can call it prescient or predetermined, but when Terry Lickona, undisputed tastemaker and producer of Austin City Limits, plucked a then relatively unknown guitar talent to tape a segment of the legendary show in 1999, one had the sense that this was just the beginning.

Since that jaw dropping performance on Austin City Limits, Monte Montgomery has embarked on an almost fantasy like rock and roll roller coaster ride filled with dizzying accomplishments and mind-blowing accolades. Named one of the “Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitar Players” by Guitar Player Magazine, he’s been called everything from “guitar-god” to the “answer to the Fermi Paradox” and has won the “Best Acoustic Guitar Player” award at the Austin Chronicle’s Austin Music Awards seven years in a row.

Monte Montgomery has cemented his place not just as some blazing

ly electrified acoustic guitar playing freak of nature, but also as a rare and true triple threat, songwriter, singer and master musician. Pulling from a litany of genres to craft original songs that span 12 albums from 1993 to the present. His latest album “A Call to Arms” is available everywhere you consume music.

Still, despite the six-string notoriety, Monte is not content to rest on his musical laurels. “I’ve resisted temptation to be just that guitar gunslinger from Austin, Texas,” says Monte. “I strive to have more depth, to be more layered as an artist, songwriter and singer.”

Hailing originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Monte never picked up a guitar until he moved to the Texas Hill Country in 1979 at the age of twelve where his mother, Maggie, taught him his first cord at the age of thirteen. Currently and for the last nine seasons, Monte, is the composer /creator of music for the FOX TV series Last Man Standing starring Tim Allen.

Ironically, it’s the cover of another rock pop classic that is bringing Monte a high-profile fan and opening new doors. After seeing Monte’s version of Sara Smile on YouTube, Daryl Hall (Hall & Oates) was so blown away he invited Monte to be the featured artist on Live from Daryl’s House, the popular web-based music show.

The result, in a day of homogenized, digitalized, and processed music, Monte Montgomery stands at the crossroads delivering a mix of dark, edgy rock to light, breezy pop-like melodies bound together with soulful blues like only a guitar slinger from Austin, Texas can.

Tickets for the event are available for purchase at eldomad.com or by calling the box office at 870-444-3007. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office (101 East Locust Street), Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
