El Dorado falls; Junction City rallies for victory

CAMDEN - El Dorado’s softball team opened the season Monday with a 15-5 loss at Camden Fairview. The Lady Wildcats only gave up five hits but committed eight errors and walked eight batters in five innings.

Fairview scored six runs in the bottom of the first on two hits, two errors, three walks and a hit batter.

“We had a few chances to get out of a couple of those innings without giving up a run, but mental miscues on defense gave the Lady Cards extra outs that resulted in runs for them,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “Hopefully we can bounce back and play well at White Hall.”

El Dorado’s Ava Whisnant was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Kaycee Otwell had a two-run single in the first inning. Mikaylee Burns had a hit and drove in a run. The Lady Wildcats had six hits in the game. Whisnant and Delaney Loyd each had two stolen bases in the game with the Lady Cats tallying six stolen bases.

The Lady Cats traveled to White Hall Monday to open up 5A South Conference play.

JUNCTION CITY 10, CADDO MAGNET 6

JUNCTION CITY - The Lady Dragons scored six runs in the fifth inning and rallied for a season-opening non-conference win over the Lady Mustangs on Monday. Junction City only had five hits but took advantage of nine walked batters by Caddo Magnet.

Trailing 6-4, the Lady Dragons scored six in the bottom of the fifth on three hits, including RBI singles by Valarie Kidwell and Zamya Cunningham. Kidwell had two RBI and scored twice. Karla Castillo pitched seven innings, giving up three earned runs off 10 hits with three walks and five strikeouts for Junction City.

Landry McLamb and Mary McLamb had three hits apiece for the Lady Mustangs.
