Woodlawn topples Parkers Chapel

PARKERS CHAPEL - Woodlawn ranks as a top contender to win the 2A state crown, and the Bears showed why on Friday, rallying from a late two-run deficit to upend Parkers Chapel 16-9 in an 8-2A clash.

The Trojans (12-4, 4-3) led 7-5 after five innings, but the Bears (19-1, 7-0) erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

Garrett Weatherfor­d, Tate Hall, Dillon Lunsford and Aidan Johnson all had three hits for the Bears, who had 16 in the game.

Lunsford had a triple and two singles along with five RBIs for the Bears.

Parker Arnold had a pair of sacrifice flies and finished with three RBIs in the win.

Hall and Johnson picked up two RBIs apiece for Woodlawn, which is 8-0 in games decided by two runs or less this season.

Hall was also the winning pitcher, working the last four innings in relief of starter Peyton Wells.

Hayden Primm homered and drove in three runs for the Trojans, who had nine hits.

Chandler Boykin went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Parkers Chapel.

Dyson Dougan, Kaine Greene, Paytin Greene, JT Ingram, Sy Fife and Owen Brown each had a single to round out Parkers Chapel’s attack.

Dougan, Kaine Greene and Paytin Greene each had one RBI for the Trojans.

Dougan took the loss in relief of Boykin, who worked 3 1/3 innings.

Woodlawn hits the road for an 8-2A tilt at Gurdon on Monday.

The Trojans will step away from conference play for home contests against Riverdale Academy (La.) on Monday and West Side Christian on Tuesday.

Smackover 11, Drew Central 3

SMACKOVER – The Bucks (4-4, 3-2) picked up a key win in the 8-3A by jumping out to a 5-0 lead before pulling away to top the Pirates (5-4, 4-2).

Trace Davis opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first for the Bucks.

Smackover padded their lead in the second with Britton Warren driving in a run with a fielder’s choice before Jaden Bryant delivered a two-run single.

Bryant later added an RBI single in the fourth before the Bucks broke the game open with four runs in the fifth.

Judson Wolfe singled home a run before Ethan Tarver drove in two runs with a base hit to highlight the scoring in the frame.

Warren allowed four hits and three runs over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He walked two and struck out eight.

Davis finished with 1 2/3 scoreless frames in relief.

Smackover is scheduled to host DeWitt on Monday.
