Martin becomes second Lady Trojan to earn 10 All-State honors

Parkers Chapel's Kallie Martin ended her high school career with 10 All-State awards. That number tied a state record set by PC's Ali Looney. Martin, though, wasn't exactly overjoyed at the accomplishment.

The 5-foot-11 senior didn't get to complete her athletic career on the field of play due to a knee injury, which cut her basketball season short. Martin, who was the 2013 Sports Alley/ News-Times Softball Player of the Year and a six-time state track champion in the long jump and triple jump, missed out on the softball and track seasons.

“It made me happy but also sad because I didn't get to finish three of my four sports my senior year,” said Martin. “My injury was really disappointing and I tried to be as positive as possible. The hardest part was having to watch my team and not be able to be on the field or court. It made it so much harder than I thought.”

Martin was injured before the basketball district tournament. She supported the Lady Trojans from the stands while they advanced to the 2A State Tournament and earned her final All-State award after the basketball season.

Martin was also All-State in tennis, teaming with Bella Frisby for their third state doubles title and leading PC to a third straight 2A championship.

In her career, Martin earned 13 letters in basketball, tennis, track and softball, earning at least one All-State honor in each sport.

“I was really excited going into my senior year because our grade is full of so many athletic girls,” she said. “I was very excited for softball because all of us seniors would finally get to play all together again since little league.”
