Eastwood, Pebble Hills top rankings
Class 6A Coronado will visit Class 5A Canutillo in a battle of top 10 teams in El Paso in this week’s El Paso Times’ Game of the Week.
Coronado, which is ranked No. 8, defeated Chapin, 17-13, and Canutillo was edged 24-21, by reigning District 1-6A champ, Pebble Hills, last week in the season opener for both teams. The Eagles are ranked No. 4.
The Eagles defeated the Thunderbirds last season on the way to a District 1-5A Division II championship and two playoff wins.
This season, Canutillo is once again led by a stellar defense and improved play at the quarterback position. Coronado played well on defense in its win against Chapin and got timely offense with two touchdown passes from Owen Levesque to Ben Wilson. Coronado is in its second season under coach Mike Pry, whose teams have shown improvement during his tenure.
Friday’s game at Canutillo will kickoff at 7 p.m.
